Chapter Two: Kimchi and Gold Medals - Sightseeing in Kyongju.
A Saturday afternoon pastime of the local couples seemed to be to tour the well spread out cultural sights.
To pay an entrance fee at each attraction would soon mount up, so the wise bought an all-inclusive ticket and made the most of it by filling the local buses to the out of town Pulguk-sa temple and Sokkuram Grotto; a good 3km climb from the palace.
Three old ladies in traditional dress attempted the climb, and a monk meditated at the half-way stage He wore a grey robe and a straw hat protected his shaved head from the sun's rays.
Further up some very shapely Korean women accompanied their boyfriends looking as though they were headed for the musical night-spots. Tight-fitting dresses and high-heeled shoes probably looked very nice for the photographs, but seemed totally inappropriate for the steep and very stony climb.
A very fit pilgrim, complete with climbing-boots and a rucksack passed everybody.
