It just got bigger than we ever imagined and the e-mail addresses of fellow travellers were too many for us to keep up with.

Some of the travellers moved on, others felt that their information was getting to be like the Lonely Planet books we were trying to supplement - too out of date, and word of mouth meant that our e-mail inbox was always full; with more people wanting to come on board, and we couldn't manually update the pages frequently enough.

The whole project needed to be redesigned and split up into smaller bytes.

All the country information and links were moved to Travel Notes - The Online Guide to Travel, and there are plenty of travel forums - available through the Travel Notes toolbar - where people can post messages themselves, interact with other travellers, and make some new friends along the way.

Posting at Magun's Compass meant that people needed to wait for me to update the pages.

Magun's Compass is not closing down or going away. In fact we're going to reformat all our pages again, and finally get down to putting the rest of the travelogues online for your pleasure.
