Chapter One: Taking Off - Hiroshima.
It was a clear day on 6th August, 1945, when three B29s approached Hiroshima at about 28,000 feet.
The plane had made a 158 degree turn and was about 10 miles north of the target at the moment of impact.
The effects of the blast on property and human life, as portrayed in the exhibition at the Peace Memorial Museum, serve as a reminder to the extreme horrors that should never be inflicted on a population again.
It is estimated that the total deaths caused by the single A-bomb from 6th August to the end of December, 1945, amounted to approximately 140,000.
The structure of the former Industrial Promotion Hall is the only ruined building allowed to stand; its dome has become a symbol of the destruction.
